On Tuesday, Riccardo Calafiori suffered an injury in action for Arsenal in their Champions League win over Shakhtar Donetsk.

The 22-year-old twisted his knee and was forced off the pitch. He was replaced by Myles Lewis-Skelly in the second half. The left-back was expected to undergo tests on Wednesday to find out the extent of the damage.

Earlier indications from the Italian media had suggested a serious setback for him, with Calciomercato even talking about Calafiori damaging his ligaments. Sky Italia now bring the latest on the defender’s injury situation… and it’s positive for Arsenal.

They have found out from the former Bologna man’s entourage that his setback isn’t as serious as initially feared. This is a ‘great relief’ for both Arsenal and Italy, likely for next month’s international break.

It’s claimed the Italy international’s problem with the medial ligament is minor and the Gunners should confirm this in the next few hours.

After ruling out the serious setback, Sky add the player still has a ‘problem’ and should be sidelined for a few weeks. This means Calafiori will at least miss Arsenal’s Premier League clash against Liverpool this weekend.
