Aston Villa are currently at the top of their Champions League table and following their win over Bologna, Unai Emery’s side have all nine points in the bag.
The performance against Bologna was impressive and while the Rossoblu haven’t been at their best in Serie A, Villa managed to nullify the Italian side’s approach and grabbed two second-half goals for the win.
Bologna legend Gianluca Pagliuca has now picked out one Villa player for special praise, stating his belief that he changed the game on Tuesday.
The player in question is Morgan Rogers and the ex-Italy goalkeeper told Quoditiano Sportivo: “In the first half I saw a good Bologna, who played on equal terms. Two chances for them and two for us. The only shame is that we didn’t take advantage of ours.
The ex-goalkeeper, who is currently a youth coordinator at Bologna, is a Villa fan and he spoke of why he started supporting the club.
“As a kid, I supported Bologna, but I followed all the English football matches and I became passionate about the colours of Aston Villa, perhaps because of the shirt or perhaps because it wasn’t the team that everyone else supported.
“Since then, the feeling with the Villans has been mutual.”
The fact that a keen Villa fan in Pagliuca enjoyed watching Rogers play says everything about the youngster’s rise at the club this season.
The 22-year-old has two goals and two assists in the Premier League this season, assisting once in the Champions League too.
This is the first time that he has ever played in the European competition and despite that, he has been carrying himself with a sense of confidence that is beyond his years.
Things will only get better and Villa fans like Pagliuca will be admiring Rogers more, as weeks go by.
