Scott McTominay is yet to reach full speed at Napoli, despite the overwhelmingly positive response to his start since joining from Manchester United.
That’s according to Il Mattino journalist Francesco De Core, via Calcio Napoli, who believes there is much more to come from the 27-year-old.
He made the move to Napoli from Manchester United in a €30.5m deal at the end of August and has been treated as a hero ever since.
He was mobbed by fans upon his arrival at Naples airport and has quickly earned their affections on the pitch, with one goal and one assist in four games in Serie A so far.
Fans, pundits and journalists have been raving about him despite the fact he’s not yet fully established himself in Antonio Conte’s first team yet.
They’re all pretty much in love with what they’ve seen so far and believe he could be a star for Napoli before too long. Some even believe he may be one of the bargains of the summer transfer window.
The hype has been undeniable and refused to die down, but De Core believes there is more to come, and they’ve only seen 40% to date.
“Napoli came from a disastrous season and have brought in players of absolute value, we could call it a Premier Napoli with the additions of McTominay, Gilmour and Lukaku,” he said.
“I’m really convinced by McTominay about Napoli, I have a special passion for him. I don’t understand why Manchester United got rid of him.
“I remember that last year he was on the transfer list and then he had a great season, Roma were also interested in him. He’s a player we’ve seen no more than 40% of, he had a mind-blowing impact in the Premier League, and he’ll do the same in Italy.”
