Brighton and Hove Albion goalkeeper Bart Verbruggen still needs to do more to convince journalists in the Netherlands, at least if the latest comments from Valentijn Driessen are anything to go by.

Voetbal Primeur cover comments from him and Johan Derksen today in which they admit they are yet to be convinced by the Brighton man.

Verbruggen is now the undisputed number one for the Netherlands after Ronald Koeman backed him ahead of Mark Flekken for Euro 2024.

He’s also first choice for Brighton, with new manager Fabian Hürzeler dropping the rotation that had seen him regularly swapped with Jason Steele.

His 17 caps for the Netherlands have proven to be productive so far, with 17 goals conceded and seven clean sheets a solid record to say the least.

While Koeman has backed the Brighton man as his number one, though, debates still rage in the media over the situation given the Dutch boss has other options such as Flekken and Justin Bijlow.

And it seems Derksen and Driessen still need to be convinced as well, as they made very clear in their latest comments on Vandaag Inside.

“He does shoot it in nicely, but of course this keeper was also made big during the European Championship,” said Driessen.

“You have to keep a few unstoppable balls as a goalkeeper, then you have added value. But this boy doesn’t have that.”

“I don’t think he’s a convincing goalkeeper at all,” added Derksen.
