Tottenham’s Timo Werner is ‘not an issue’ for Germany coach Julian Nagelsmann because he is basically ‘forgotten in London’.
That’s according to RB Live, who report that ‘nobody talks about Timo Werner anymore’ in either the Germany set up or at RB Leipzig.
They explain that with Niclas Füllkrug out of the picture for the national team, there has been a debate about who would fill in the role in this international break. Nobody, though, was talking about the Tottenham man.
That’s surprising given the 28-year-old is in his prime as a footballer and has 24 goals in 57 games for Germany today.
He’s been out of the picture for the national team for a while and that’s thanks to the fact ‘things aren’t going really well’ at Tottenham.
He hasn’t scored a goal since March and is now considered a ‘death of chances’. In other words, he’s a striker who can’t score goals.
That was the case last weekend as he faced criticism for his failure to take his chances in Tottenham’s 3-2 loss to Brighton and Hove Albion. Spurs should have won that game and much of the criticism was focused on him once again.
It continued what’s been a steady decline for Werner, who was once on the wish list of several Premier League clubs. He eventually moved to Chelsea but was unable to shine there and the situation is currently similar at Tottenham. It seems unlikely they’ll be buying him on a permanent basis in the summer.
Unless there is a major turnaround he’ll be returning to Leipzig and remaining out of the picture for the German national team, who’ve basically forgotten him at this point.
