Everton goalkeeper Asmir Begovic has insisted he didn’t have to think twice about returning to the club this summer, even if it meant being a number two again.
Begovic has been speaking to Diretta in Italy about various topics, including his current situation at Everton after a return this summer.
The 37-year-old first played for Everton between 2021 and 2023 after arriving on a free transfer to back up Jordan Pickford.
That continued a varied career to date which has seen him play for Portsmouth, La Louviere, Macclesfield, Bournemouth, Yeovil, Ipswich, Stoke, Chelsea, Qarabag, AC Milan and Queens Park Rangers.
A return to Everton beckoned this summer as they needed another goalkeeper alongside Pickford and Joao Virginia.
Begovic is yet to make an appearance for Sean Dyche’s side this season, but it seems he’s more than happy to be the elder statesman in the group.
He had to weigh up that choice in the summer and insists it didn’t take much for him to consider a move back to Goodison Park.
“I definitely had other offers, but when Everton called again it was an easy decision to come back. The club is huge, and Everton fans really have blue in their blood, so it’s a pleasure to be here,” he said.
“It’s purely a player role. Every day I help set standards and push all players to improve to keep our culture strong.
“Sean Dyche is one of my favourite managers. He knows exactly what he wants and is very clear with every player. It’s fantastic to play for him and I’m having a lot of fun. I’m happy to support all the goalkeepers, like a big brother, but also to compete every day.”
