Celtic star Arne Engels has insisted he is loving life at the Scottish club and urged fans not to be too worried by the 7-1 defeat to Borussia Dortmund, which he feels wasn’t a fair reflection.

Kicker cover comments from the Celtic man today after Brendan Rodgers’ side were humiliated on Tuesday evening in their second game in the Champions League this year.

It proved to be a chastening evening for the Scottish Premiership champions, who were completely overrun by a Karim Adeyemi inspired Dortmund side in Germany.

A 7th minute penalty had put the hosts ahead before being levelled by Daizen Maeda but that was a short respite as Adeyemi bagged a hattrick before halftime and Serhou Guirassy scored in the 40th minute also.

He added another in the 66th minute before Felix Nmecha made it seven in the 79th minute to make it a resounding victory, and then some.

Engels isn’t going to dwell on it, though, and believes the scoreline was overly harsh on him and his Celtic teammate.

“We just didn’t play well. Dortmund were really strong, but I still think 7-1 was a bit too much,” he said.

“We have to stick together now, concentrate on ourselves and just look to the next game. It’s happening so quickly, there’s no time to think about it for long, we just have to get on with it.

“It wasn’t our best game; I think everyone could see that. The good thing is that our next game comes quickly and it’s up to us to show again that Dortmund was just a bad day and that we are still in a good mood.”

The 21-year-old has enjoyed a solid start to life with Celtic since making the move to Parkhead in the summer in an €11m deal from FC Augsburg.

He’s already managed two goals and three assists in six games, including two assists and a goal in the 5-1 win over Slovan Bratislava that kicked off Celtic’s Champions League campaign.

His return to Germany here was not a pleasant one, to say the least, but that doesn’t mean he’s not enjoying the adventure so far.

“Apart from this game here: yes. It’s everything I hoped for, sometimes even more. Even though today was a bad day for us, we are usually much better,” he added.
