Ex Romania international turned pundit Iosif Rotariu has spoken to Sport.ro about Ianis Hagi’s performances for the national side and his situation at Rangers.
The attacking midfielder impressed in his country’s 3-1 victory over Lithuania last night, but he’s yet to feature in Philippe Clement’s side this season.
Speaking after Romania’s win in the Nations League, Rotariu said the Rangers player is very hard to predict when it comes to his dribbling and set pieces, because of his ability with both feet.
Rotariu doesn’t understand the treatment Hagi has been receiving at Rangers and encouraged Clement to reconsider.
“I’ve seen players who take free kicks, 11-metre shots, corners, shoot equally well with both feet. But I have never seen in my life a player who dribbles as well with his left and with his right… as Ianis Hagi does. It’s very difficult to predict what Ianis is doing with the ball, that’s how the penalty in the match against Lithuania was won. We have seen his situation at Rangers, Ianis should be valued by the coach of the Scots, he is an exceptional player,” said Rotariu.
Hagi was loaned out to Alaves last season, but since returning to Glasgow his situation with Rangers has been difficult.
He’s seen himself frozen out at Ibrox with some reports he will receive a significant pay rise if he plays another game for the Scottish club.
The attacking midfielder was linked with a move this summer, with reports last week that Steaua Bucharest were looking get a last-minute deal over the line. However, a move didn’t materialise and Hagi now finds himself training with Rangers’ reserves.
