Leander Dendoncker is expected to complete a return to Anderlecht from Aston Villa today, and it seems there’s plenty of excitement about the transfer.
That’s at least if the latest comments from Olivier Deschacht are anything to go by, as he praises the midfielder today.
Dendocker is expected to join Anderlecht on loan for the remainder of the season, with Aston Villa making it clear that he is not a part of their pans moving forwards.
A deal has already been done and reports last night stated that a deal would be done sooner rather than later after Dendoncker gave his approval.
Indeed, a report this morning stated that there was nothing standing in the way of it happening as he was pictured arriving for his medical with Anderlecht.
The move is a big one for the midfielder, marking a return to his former club after a disappointing spell at Aston Villa.
His return is certainly creating some excitement and Deschacht is full of praise for the 29-year-old ahead of the move being completed.
“Leander is a runner with three lungs in his body, a real box-to-box player. I miss that type of player in the current core of Anderlecht,” Voetbalkrant report him saying to HLN.
“Someone who can also take control of the midfield with strength. I also see Leander more as an ‘8’ than a ‘6’, he puts too much energy into his game to function solely as a defensive midfielder. Leave that to Rits or Leoni.
“In preparation for a new season, the beep test was planned,” he adds about an experience with Dendoncker as a youngster.
“A nightmare for many players, because you really break down then.” “While the rest had been out for fifteen minutes, Leander just kept going. Beep, beep, beep… eventually the medical staff just asked him to stop.”
