Tottenham Hotspur confirmed that Emerson Royal has completed a permanent switch to AC Milan on Monday.
The Serie A side were chasing the right-back all summer and the negotiations dragged on before they reached an agreement with Tottenham.
Calciomercato have had a chat with the 25-year-old’s agent, Stefano Castagna, and he gave an insight on the background of the deal to take his client from Tottenham to the San Siro.
At the weekend, we covered claims from the Italian media which stated the defender gave up several other offers, including rich ones from Saudi Arabia, to join the Rossoneri.
Castagna hasn’t categorically confirmed this but has insisted that the Brazilian only had Milan in his mind. The agent mentioned this when explaining why it wasn’t easy for Paulo Fonseca’s side to negotiate with Spurs.
“The negotiation was long but, in the end, the white smoke arrived to everyone’s satisfaction. Emerson absolutely wanted the Milan shirt, and he worked a lot, he pushed to come here,” he said.
“Yes, it was long, but we did it. The negotiation lasted a long time because there are two important clubs in the middle and therefore, they have to do their job.”
Last season, the Brazilian wasn’t able to get regular game time at Spurs under Ange Postecoglou, encouraging his decision to leave.
Emerson has signed a four-year deal, with an option for another season, and his agent stated that he picked Milan to be part of their long-term project.
“First feelings? Well, you sign for one of the biggest clubs in the world and when you enter the trophy room you see everything there, you realise where you are. However, it is something great. Long contract because this is a serious, long-term project,” Castagna explained.
