After months of speculation following his failed move to Celtic, it appears that West Ham are the ones who have won the race to sign KAS Eupen prodigy Henry Onyekuru.
According to OwnGoalNigeria this week, the Hammers agreed a £7m fee with the Belgian side for the 19-year-old forward, with the deal going through when personal details and bonuses have been agreed.
Needing someone capable of putting the ball in the back of the net after the two flops that were Simone Zaza and Jonathan Calleri, West Ham will, if the deal goes through, be getting just that.
Scoring 22 goals in 40 appearances this season, as well as providing nine assists, the soon-to-be Nigeria international has talent aplenty, and will be looking to hone his skills even more in a tougher league.
Speaking to OwnGoalNigeria, the player, while refusing to confirm that he was signing for West Ham, admitted he was very likely to be playing in the Premier League next season.
He said: “I will be very honest with you. My dream is to play in England, and this is a chance for me to actually do it. For now, I can confirm that talks are underway for me to achieve my dreams”.
Expected to team up with the Nigeria national team before the 26th of May, when they face Corsica, the young forward could very make two of his dreams come true in one summer: play for his country and sign for a Premier League club.
Considering very few had heard of him before the season began, it’s been quite the rise for the 19-year-old.
