West Bromwich Albion are still the Portuguese press’ favourites when the subject is William Carvalho.
Even though it’s Manchester City who are reportedly making an offer for the midfielder in the next few days, Record does not rule the Baggies out of the race.
They recall that the player couldn’t leave in the last summer, when West Brom had an offer of €32m rejected by Sporting president Bruno de Carvalho. The amount of the reported West Brom has changed repeatedly, depending on who you wish to believe.
But the Premier League side are said to be insistent, despite the heavy competition from Manchester City and Roma.
Manchester City will reportedly bid €70m for William Carvalho and Gelson Martins, but Sporting would be demanding €40m only for the midfielder. That’s pretty close to his €45m release clause, and a figure that has been mentioned by the local papers for a while.
Can West Brom raise last summer’s offer and convince the Portuguese side to sell? The local press seems pretty confident the Baggies can still beat the other sides.
