Çaykur Rizespor coach İlhan Palut has told the Turkish media the club don’t expect to re-sign Nottingham Forest midfielder Jonjo Shelvey.

The former Liverpool and Newcastle United player spent last season on loan with the Super Lig side and they had the intention to bring him back.

Sporx have reported on comments made by Palut when he was asked whether Shevley will be returning to Rizespor. Palut revealed there were efforts to sign the Nottingham Forest player but they couldn’t find an agreement.

“It doesn’t look like he will be returning to the club. We make our plans without him. I don’t think we could reach a common-ground. We have other plans,” said the Rizespor coach.

Last month we covered reports from Turkey that Rizespor were looking to re-sign Shelvey, but couldn’t reach an agreement with Nottingham Forest over the transfer fee.

At the time it was claimed the Premier League side wanted €6m for the central midfielder, whilst Rizespor were only prepared to pay €4m.

Shelvey made 29 appearances for the Turkish club last season, scoring 2 goals. He’s contracted to Forest until June 2025.
