There’s a claim in the Turkish media that Trabzonspor are closing in on Southampton forward Paul Onuachu.

The Nigeria international spent last season on loan with the Super Lig side and this summer has endlessly been linked with a return.

Kuzey Ekspres claim Southampton’s resolve may have been broken after weeks of transfer talks. The Premier League side initially wanted €15m for Onuachu, whilst Trabzonspor only wanted another loan deal due to the valuation of the player.

However, it’s believed his asking price has been dropping in recent weeks and Southampton are prepared to accept an offer as low as €7m. This could now open the door for Trabzonspor after they tabled a €6m bid last week.

According to the Turkish media outlet his transfer to the Trabzon club could happen soon.

In the past week Trabzonspor have grown frustrated with negotiations with the Saints and have been linked with other forwards. Despite this, Onuachu has reportedly maintained he’s only interested signing for the Turkish side this summer.

Onuachu made 25 appearances last season for Trabzonspor, scoring an impressive 17 goals. He’s contracted to Southampton until June 2026.
