On May 30th, Tuttosport reported Chelsea are crazy about Riccardo Calafiori. It was also stated new Blues manager Enzo Maresca is keen to bring the Bologna star to Stamford Bridge.

The centre-back joined the Serie A side from FC Basel last summer, and his displays have helped him make debut for Italy earlier this month. He has also attracted interest from clubs in his country and abroad.

A fresh report from Tuttosport provides the latest on Chelsea’s pursuit of the 22-year-old.

It’s claimed the former Basel man is not short of options abroad, with ‘Chelsea first and foremost’, whilst Bayer Leverkusen and Atlético Madrid like him.

Two days ago, the defender played the full 90 minutes in Italy’s 2-1 win over Albania in the Euros, and the west London club had a scout in Dortmund to watch him closely.

Bologna have publicly declared he’s not transferable, but Tuttosport say they will need at least €40m to sanction his sale.

Maresca’s side and the two other clubs will find it difficult to sign the player because of his desire to join Juventus and reunite Thiago Motta.

The Old Lady will have contacts with Bologna and the player’s agent in the coming weeks. They find the €40m valuation to be high as Juve technical director Cristiano Giuntoli felt a deal could have been concluded for €25m.

Therefore, Tuttosport state Giuntoli will need time to try to get this deal over the line. This may give Chelsea and other foreign clubs a chance to get ahead of Juve, as long as they can convince Calafiori to change his mind.
