On May 14th, Sport reported Arsenal and Bayern Munich are in the picture to sign Paris Saint-Germain’s Xavi Simons.

The attacking midfielder spent the 2023/24 season on loan at RB Leipzig, managing 10 goals and 15 assists from 43 games.

L’Equipe state his fine displays for the Bundesliga side have caught the attention of a few clubs, including Arsenal.

The Netherlands internationl is expected to leave PSG in the summer window because he’s not included in Luis Enrique’s plans.

Arsenal and Bayern have ‘expressed interest’, and have ‘tested the waters’ to sign the player. Manchester City and Manchester United are also in the mix.

L’Equipe say some of these clubs have suggested they could offer a ‘good transfer fee’, and there’s no mention of any figures or whether Mikel Arteta’s side are one of them.

PSG signed Simons from PSV Eindhoven in 2023, and the report says the Dutch club will receive majority of the fee if he’s sold before January 2025. Therefore, PSG would prefer to send him out on loan this summer.

There’s a clause in Simons’ contract that will allow him to decide his next [likely loan] club, as long as he agrees a deal with them.

As of now, Simons prefers returning to Leipzig, and this may not please the Gunners. If Arsenal can convince him, they can take advantage of his clause [and PSG’s situation] to sign the player on loan this summer.
