Earlier today we covered claims from Spain which stated Newcastle United have offered €15m plus €5m in potential bonus payments for Ferran Torres.
Barcelona paid Manchester City €55m for the player in the January 2022 transfer window, and put a €1bn buyout clause on his head.
He’s not really lived up to the hype, and it always seemed an inflated amount for the club to so readily pay, and such actions explain why they’re in a financial mess now.
The Catalan media have now responded to the reported Newcastle United offer, and Mundo Deportivo point out that Barcelona still need to amortise €30m from the transfer, so a transfer fee of €15m wouldn’t cover that.
Perhaps Barcelona will push Newcastle United to offer a higher fixed fee so they can get a little closer to that €30m, or even a loan with a purchase obligation for next summer given the figure to be amortised will be lower by then.
