William Carvalho, Gelson Martins, Bas Dost. We thought West Brom had already been linked to enough players from Portugal in the past few days, but the local press keeps surprising us.
According to Portuguese newspaper Record today, it’s now Benfica defender Jardel who the Baggies are interested in.
West Brom have reportedly recently made an approach for the 31-year-old, but it was immediately rejected by Benfica.
The Eagles would be planning to have Jardel in a more important role next season. As Victor Lindelof could be sold to Manchester United and Luisão is getting old, Jardel was told by president Luis Filipe Vieira he could be the next club captain.
But unlike other Benfica players, Jardel doesn’t have a high release clause. His figure is only €20m, something completely affordable for West Brom.
If the claim of Tony Pulis interest is correct, West Brom have a good chance of completing this transfer.
