Malmö FF manager Henrik Rydström’s agent Stevan Selakovic has told Fotbollskanalen that he isn’t surprised with the latest rumours linking his client to Brighton & Hove Albion.

Roberto De Zerbi stepped down from his post at The Amex at the end of the season and the Seagulls are yet to appoint his successor.

There’s been talk in England that Rydström is in contention for the Brighton job. The 48-year-old’s agent has neither confirmed nor denied interest from the Premier League side.

“Given the results Henrik has achieved and the work he has done, it is natural that his name is mentioned in such contexts, but right now he only has full focus on Malmö FF,” he said.

Malmö have won the title and the Swedish cup under the current manager’s guidance and are now leading the league table. Their sporting director, Daniel Andersson, is not at all surprised with claims from the UK about Brighton being an option for Rydström.

“That is not something I have heard. But it’s not surprising, he has done incredibly well in the past and very well with us. It’s not surprising that there is interest,” Andersson explained.

“He can speak for himself, but the feeling is that he feels very good and is driving this project in a good way and is looking forward to the European game that is coming too.”

Malmö secured a 2-1 win over IF Elfsborg on Tuesday, and in the post-match press conference, the manager was asked about the recent claims of linking him with a move to Brighton.

“I saw it. I heard from a friend that it had come from a betting site. That’s all I know. It’s more fun to be mentioned than not to,” he added.

“But this is very abstract. It’s nothing concrete and nothing that I even… there were some incredible coach names there, and then you wonder what the missing link is?”

“It’s Björn Hamberg, who was with [Graham] Potter and a friend of mine. He’s probably the one [says it jokingly] who planted it.”
