Inter Milan made an approach for Brighton & Hove Albion manager Roberto De Zerbi last year.
This is according to De Zerbi’s friend, Germán Denis, and he made this claim to Sportitalia, relayed by InterLive.it.
Denis knows the Brighton manager from their time at Napoli, as the two were teammates between 2008 and 2010.
Simone Inzaghi has been in charge at the San Siro since 2021 and his position there was uncertain at some point in 2023. According to Denis, this is when Inter contacted the 44-year-old Italian.
However, De Zerbi rejected the Nerazzurri due to his love for their local rivals, AC Milan.
The Seagulls coach was a product of AC Milan’s academy but never got an opportunity to showcase his talent for the Rossoneri during his playing career. T
“When it was in the balance. Inter contacted Roberto De Zerbi. I know for a fact that he said no to the Nerazzurri, because he is a big AC Milan fan,” he said.
Inter will be pleased to have continued with their current manager as they won the title and the Supercoppa Italiana under his orders this season.
The report states Inter are working on extending Inzaghi’s contract until 2027, which will see his salary rise to €7m per year plus bonuses.
