Caykur Rizespor manager İlhan Palut wants Nottingham Forest’s Jonjo Shelvey to remain with the Super Lig beyond this season.
The central midfielder is currently on season’s long loan with Rizespor from Nottingham Forest.
Has Gazete have reported on a statement released by club director Hasan Yavuz Bakır with regards to Palut’s desire to keep the Nottingham Forest loanee. The former Liverpool and Newcastle United player has impressed since arriving in Turkey and Rizespor are keen for him to stay.
“Shelvey is happy in Rize and we are satisfied with his performance. However, he remains under contract with his club. If financial conditions arise, we will add Shelvey to our staff,” said Yavuz’s statement.
Yavuz’s statement echoes comments we covered in November, when he told the Turkish media they could sit down with Nottingham Forest at the end of the season and get a deal done for Shelvey. The Rizespor director also confirmed that they don’t have an option to buy the player when his loan spell expires.
“Shelvey is a very high quality and experienced player, we think he will contribute to our team,” he said.
“There’s no purchase option in Shelvey’s contract, but if we have such an idea at the end of the season, we will sit down and talk to Nottingham. Adolfo Gaich also does not have any options in his contract. We can evaluate this at the end of the season,” said Vavuz.
Shelvey has made 29 appearances for the Turkish side this season, scoring 2 goals. He’s contracted to Nottingham Forest until June 2025 and subsequently the Premier League side will have a decision to make in the summer.
