As Sporting boss Ruben Amorim today held a press conference ahead of the match against Famalicão, the obvious question showed up again, this time in a different way.

Instead of directly asking the manager whether he’s leaving for Liverpool, something that he already answered last week, local journalists now wanted to know if players ask him about his future.

That was a alternative way to take something from Amorim about the recent rumours of a departure, and in quotes brought by O Jogo, the coach resorted to a little humour… saying all the players ask for is time off.

“I didn’t say anything to the players. When it was mentioned that I had an agreement with Liverpool, I felt the need to talk, but I left that part for the press conference. I don’t get anything from the players, they just ask about days off,” said Amorim.

Liverpool may be fully engaged in their pursuit of a replacement for Jurgen Klopp, but the fact is that Amorim is really focused on the end of the season with Sporting. Tomorrow, they’ll be playing a delayed game against Famalicão, and in case they win, they’ll be seven points clear from Benfica.

That could nearly give the Lions the title, so it’s no surprise that Amorim doesn’t have the time to tease with Liverpool for now, even though the talks with his entourage may be happening.
