With Nicolo Zaniolo unlikely to stay at Aston Villa beyond the summer, some other clubs are already getting interested in his signing.

That’s the case of Lazio, who, according to TuttoMercatoWeb, now have the 24-year-old as a target.

Maurizio Sarri recently stepped down from his role as manager at the Serie A side, and as president Claudio Lotito looks for a new coach, he also eyes some potential reinforcements for the summer.

Zaniolo is one of them, with TMW sounding sure that the midfielder will ‘return to Galatasaray’ following his loan spell at Aston Villa.

It’s said Lotito sees the player the ‘ideal profile’ to strengthen their squad, and ‘there have been some contacts’ for his signing already.

What could make things harder for Lazio is that Zaniolo used to play for their city rivals AS Roma, so we’ll have to see if he’d accept such a move after this ‘important past’ on the other side of town.

Since arriving at Aston Villa, the midfielder made 30 appearances, having scored two goals.

He has never had a good sequence of starts, though, and continues to fight to have some minutes at the end of matches.

That’s why a permanent transfer isn’t even considered at this stage.
