Over the past couple of weeks, we have seen an increase in articles in the Netherlands about Yankuba Minteh, as the Newcastle United loanee enjoys some increased game time at Feyenoord.
The winger, who was sent to the Eredivisie side for the season to get some experience after his transfer from Odense BK, has been praised for his technical ability, but also sometimes criticised for his decision making.
However, there are some ready to defend him strongly, such as former manager Willem van Hanegem speaking to Algemeen Dagblad, relayed by 1908.nl, who believes the forward ‘excels in several areas’.
He said: “Everyone has an opinion about the boy and often it is negative. They often say interesting things about defenders being blocked by forwards, but Minteh does it with flying colours. And he is offensively strong and dangerous.
“Yes, he sometimes makes the wrong choice. Well, it happens. As if the rest of the Premier League plays so flawlessly.”
The 19-year-old scored his third goal in two league games at the weekend in the 2-2 draw against PSV Eindhoven, showing a late burst of form this season, taking his tally to six league goals and three assists in 18 Eredivisie appearances.
This will be exactly what Newcastle wanted from the loan, and there is every chance he could end up being an option for whoever is in charge at St James’ Park next season, be that Eddie Howe or someone else.
