Leicester City’s Hamza Choudhury could have an opportunity to represent Bangladesh at the international stage.
That’s according to Somoy News, who state the Bengal Tigers are working on bringing the 26-year-old to the national team.
The Leicester midfielder, who is of Bangladeshi descent, has only represented England U21 and not their senior team.
The report states the Foxes have given their approval and the football association are now working to sort it out, so that the former Watford man can represent Bangladesh. Their FA’s executive committee member, Amer Khan, has provided the latest on this case.
“We are working on Hamza, we are trying. Let’s see what happens. We are trying. There’s an 80% chance that we can get him. They’re playing there too [at Leicester]. If you don’t get a break now, you won’t be able to come,” Khan said, as quoted by Somoy News.
“I have said before, I have future plans for Bangladesh. My father is looking into these things, he is communicating with them. I am interested in signing a contract, Inshallah, one day I will play for Bangladesh,” he said.
The Bengal Tigers have conceded late goals in some of their recent fixtures and the report adds the Leicester player could be a solution to help them stop it.
Bangladesh will face Palestine twice next month in the World Cup qualifiers and it remains to be seen whether he’ll be able to join Javier Cabrera’s squad.
Choudhury, who can also operate as a fullback, has made 31 appearances for Leicester this season.
