Belgian side Club Brugge are putting the pressure on youngster Antonio Nusa to revalue himself before the end of the season after the saga with Brentford killed off interest in him.
That’s according to Het Laatste Nieuws, relayed by Voetbal Nieuws, who say interest in the forward ‘cooled considerably’ after the saga involving Brentford.
Nusa appeared to be on the verge of joining the Bees in the January transfer window in a €37m deal, with the two clubs agreeing on a deal and signing off on it.
However, issues around a lesion in the cartilage in his knee and an injury in his lower back led to Brentford stalling and eventually cancelling the deal outright, later spending their money on striker Igor Thiago instead.
He’s had to try and recover mentally from the saga and has slowly been integrated back into the squad in the last few weeks.
HLN now say Brugge are now hoping it will the start of a revival as he needs to seriously impress in the coming months to revive any interest in him.
They believe that the Brentford affair has not only dragged down his valuation but also seen interest from other clubs, such as Chelsea and Tottenham, ‘cooled considerably’.
They intend to still sell the youngster for a big amount, though, and so have placed the pressure on the 18-year-old’s shoulders, making it clear he has to ‘pick up the thread’ and put himself back in the shop window.
It is up to him to prove that he is still worth the €37m Brentford were willing to pay, particularly with any new suitors likely to want him ‘thoroughly examined’ on the medical side.
Nusa will have to ensure that there are no longer any sporting doubts about him, with the Brentford saga having caused problems that he needs to now get rid of.
