Saturday’s Italian stance on Cyril Ngonge, and specifically the battle between Aston Villa and Fiorentina to sign the Verona player, mainly comes from Corriere dello Sport.
The Italian newspaper are covering Fiorentina’s desire to secure the attacker during the winter market. So far this season, the 23-year-old has played 17 Serie A matches, scoring 5 goals and adding 3 assists.
Vincenzo Italiano, Fiorentina’s manager, is said to be heavily pushing his club to secure a deal. However, La Viola haven’t yet sent an offer because they believe Verona are asking for too much money.,
Unlike Fiorentina, Aston Villa have sent a ‘real offer’. This has been covered repeatedly, and it’s even been said Villa’s offer is acceptable, but the player is thought to prefer to stay in Italy.
Corriere dello Sport go some way to explaining stance, and it provides some light for Aston Villa.
Ngonge isn’t set against the Premier League, or indeed Unai Emery’s side. It’s believed he feels he’s got a better chance of ‘continuity’ of games if he stays in Serie A, which is a league more ‘congenial to his characteristics’.
On one hand, if he doubts he can succeed in the Premier League then it may be best to walk away. On the other, if Aston Villa are convinced then the way to persuading him is now a little clearer.
