Feyenoord manager Arne Slot considered a potential move to Tottenham ‘very seriously’ in the summer, before electing to stay where he was.
That’s according to journalist Sjoerd Mossou, who says that the Dutch coach was keen on the move despite publically insisting that he wasn’t.
The journalist has been speaking on Algemeen Dagblad’s football podcast regarding the Feyenoord manager, who has had a busy few years after impressing with the Dutch side.
He was first linked with a move to Leeds United in 2022 before Tottenham expressed an interest in him last summer as they looked for their new permanent manager.
They instead decided to hire Celtic manager Ange Postecoglou and haven’t looked back since, impressing in the first half of the season with an attractive, attacking brand of football that’s got fans very much on side.
They’re more than delighted with the man that they’ve got in charge, but it seems things could have been very different, with Mossou explaining that Slot ‘very seriously’ considered Tottenham’s offer.
“He made it seem like it was never a consideration, but he did consider it very seriously. It was especially smart communication from Slot,” he said on the matter.
“He had the hope, if he stayed at Feyenoord for an extra year, that they could bring in players from a higher level, instead of a lower level.
“Not much has changed yet. Luka Ivanusec is a Croatian international, you can call him from the upper category. But Feyenoord also brings in players who play at a lower level.”
