Wilfried Zaha left Crystal Palace as a free agent at the end of last season, after spending nine years in his second spell at Selhurst Park.
The winger joined Galatasaray for free and has been a regular under Okan Buruk, when available for selection. He has six goals and two assists to his name from 18 games this season.
Journalist Levent Tüzemen, writing in his column for Sabah, has been critical of the former Crystal Palace star.
The Turkish champions failed to qualify for the Champions League knockout stage after a 1-0 loss against FC Copenhagen earlier this week.
They’ve been demoted to the Europa League and the performance against the Danish club seems to have annoyed Tüzemen.
Galatasaray were active in the last window and brought in a few big names, including Zaha. Among these signings, the journalist claims only Davinson Sánchez has proved his worth so far.
To accommodate the ex-Eagles man on the left wing, Buruk moved Kerem Aktürkoğlu to the No.10 position. Tüzemen believes this has impacted Galatasaray’s performances and also Mauro Icardi’s form.
“I see the opportunities given to Zaha and the money paid as a waste. Doesn’t take responsibility, always makes excuses,” he said.
“After the Copenhagen match, I don’t accept the excuse of ‘We knew the opponent would be closed. Ziyech and Zaha were injured, we could not evaluate the positions.’ A coach’s job is to produce solutions.
“In addition, Okan moving Kerem from the left wing to number 10 for the sake of Zaha harmed Galatasaray and negatively affected Icardi’s performance. Because these two had a big share in the championship with the unity they formed last season. Last season, the Kerem-İcardi duo scored a total of 22 goals and made 7 assists.
“The management is parting ways with Ndombele and Angelino. If I were Erden Timur, I would look for ways to send Zaha back to Crystal Palace. Because this Zaha does not take responsibility and constantly makes excuses. Because of Zaha, the harmony and peace of both Kerem and Icardi were disrupted.”
Roy Hodgson and Crystal Palace may be keen to take Zaha back if an opportunity were to be presented to them.
