Last week, the idea that Galatasaray could make a move for Manchester City’s Mateo Kovacic emerged in Turkey, as the Süper Lig side look to bolster their midfield in the January transfer window.
The Croatian arrived at the Etihad to compensate for the exit of Ilkay Gundogan, but has yet to impose himself in Pep Guardiola’s plans like the Germany international had.
That’s why there’s a feeling a door could be opened over at Galatasaray, all depending on how Manchester City feel about it, which is commented on by Aksam.
They explain that following the decision to bring in a midfielder in the coming weeks, the Turkish club’s vice-president, Erden Timur, ‘has made a move’ for the Croatia international.
It’s made very clear that those in charge of transfers at Galatasaray will ‘push all conditions’ for the 29-year-old, and while they know they cannot afford the €29m Manchester City paid Chelsea for the player, they will ‘keep the option of loaning the player’ for the rest of the campaign.
After that, their plan is to pay the option to buy ‘in instalments during the summer transfer period’, meaning they will not be sending one chunk of money to the north of England, but a series of smaller ones.
Whether that is something Manchester City are willing to consider isn’t said, but with just seven starts in the Premier League this season from a possible 16, there could be a desire for Kovacic to try something new.
