Last summer, despite Chelsea’s strong pursuit of Manuel Ugarte, the midfielder ended up leaving Sporting for Paris Saint-Germain.
The French side won the race by finding a €60m agreement with the Lions, with the Blues having to look at other options in the market.
As PSG released today an interview with Ugarte, he ended up looking back at the summer window and recalling the time when Chelsea were after him. The quotes come from Canal Supporters.
The midfielder claimed to be fully happy with the choice he made by signing a five-year contract with the Parisian side.
“Paris Saint-Germain for me is something incredible. Sometimes I find it hard to believe that I am here because before coming I did not imagine the scale of this club, its worldwide fame, its supporters… I am enjoying this incredible experience enormously, while focusing on the achievement of our objectives.”
Ugarte didn’t need any time of adaptation to become a starter at PSG, even though he spent a few games on the bench in league games this season.
So far, he has 15 appearances for them, starting in all of their Champions League clashes.
Chelsea may have missed out on him but still made big signings for their defensive midfield, with Moises Caicedo, Roméo Lavia and Lesley Ugochukwu arriving at Stamford Bridge.
It’s also worth pointing out that the first two were even more expensive than Ugarte.
