Newcastle United may be heavily interested in Sporting CP defender Ousmane Diomande, but it seems it is unlikely they will be able get his signing done in the January transfer window.
As Portuguese newspaper A Bola today features a story about the player’s future, it’s said he has already ‘decided’ that he is focused on staying with the Lions at least until the end of the season.
The outlet points out the ‘constant’ chase there’s been for his signing, with Newcastle being among the Premier League clubs who have been linked to him.
Still, the player wants to fight for the Portuguese League title this season, and Sporting CP won’t listen to any offers during the campaign.
Diomande is protected by one of the highest release clauses in Sporting’s squad, standing at €80m, and there’s even a chance he could be given a new contract soon.
Recent reports from Portugal claimed that Newcastle have been making reports about the player and could soon advance for his signing, but if A Bola is to be believed, the Magpies better wait until the end of the season to have a chance to negotiate for a reasonable fee.
