With Brighton & Hove Albion manager Roberto De Zerbi publicly stating that he doesn’t like Premier League referees, his quotes were soon picked up by the Italian media.
The manager’s home country’s press has been rating him very highly for the work he’s done with the Seagulls, and took his opinion quite seriously.
However, SportItalia pundit Michele Criscitiello today had some words for the Brighton boss. Those quotes come from Area Napoli, and it’s made clear the coach should recall how things are in Italy.
“De Zerbi, what are you saying? For the first time in my life I disagree with you. If in England the situation regarding VAR is worrying, I tell you that in Italy we are far worse off. You remain our favourite coach anyway,” said Criscitiello.
De Zerbi’s comments were regarding John Brooks’ refereeing in the match between Brighton and Sheffield United at the weekend, with the official sending off Mahmoud Dahoud with a straight red card.
The Seagulls went into the international break in 8th place in the Premier League, with 19 points in 12 matches. In the Europa League, they’re second after four fixtures, and still have a chance to take Marseille off the top of Group B.
Brighton will be back on the pitch on the 25th of November, when they play Nottingham Forest at the City Ground.
