Newcastle United have the chance to sign striker Serhou Guirassy for a bargain price in January, as his release clause is also active in that window.
That’s according to Sky Germany, who say the Bundesliga top goalscorer can leave Stuttgart in January should anyone wish to get him.
Guirassy has started this season on fire, with 14 goals in eight games this season putting him far ahead of Harry Kane, Victor Boniface and others.
It’s led to consistent speculation about his future, with several reports making it clear that he has a release clause in his current contract worth €20m which activates next summer.
That was seen as a concerning issue for the German side as they know that’s a bit of a bargain and they’ve been working on getting him signed to a new deal with an improved clause to ensure they don’t lose him on the cheap.
It seems, though, there is a pressing need for that as Sky Germany now reveal that Guirassy has another exit clause for the January transfer window.
According to them the striker can leave Stuttgart in the winter for ‘less than €20m’, thus a bit cheaper than in the summer. That’s a price which represents ‘an absolute bargain’ given his current performances.
That should be interesting to his growing list of suitors, including Newcastle, who have been linked with a potential move since August this year.
Indeed, the player even opened the door to a potential move by admitting he’d be open to a transfer if it was offered to him.
Whether Newcastle remain keen, particularly with Alexander Isak and Callum Wilson continuing to score goals, is up for debate but the possibility is there to get a player for ‘an absolute bargain’ price.
