Following Argentina’s match against Peru on Tuesday evening, there was some concern regarding Tottenham Hotspur defender Cristian Romero, who left the international match with discomfort in his right ankle.

It was the player himself who asked to be replaced at half-time, and that was a clear sign that Spurs should be worried about his condition.

Even though the Argentine national team didn’t make further comments on the situation, Romero himself is now quoted by La Voz.

The player revealed that ‘his right ankle had swollen too much’, but didn’t make a big thing out of it, sounding like he was trying to prevent himself from getting seriously injured ahead of his return to Tottenham.

“That’s why I decided to come out at half-time, as we also have an important home game with Tottenham Hotspur on Monday against Fulham. But this is a team of animals (Argentina) and whoever comes in is sure to be a cracker.”

Romero was a starter in both of Argentina’s games during the international break, as the World Cup champions beat Paraguay 1-0 and Peru 2-0.

It now seems it will be Tottenham who’ll make a deeper analysis of his situation and decide whether he’s fit to be in Ange Postecoglou’s side for the next match. Fighting to stay on top of the Premier League table, Spurs will be playing Fulham on Monday evening.
