If you were to write Naby Keita’s last few years at Liverpool and then post Anfield into a story, you’d probably have to include a warning for the sheer misery of it all.
The midfielder has had a torrid time of late, with a series of never-ending injuries stopping him playing for Liverpool and now new club Werder Bremen.
He’s currently out with the latest of those and, as BILD explain, that’s having consequences elsewhere too.
The newspaper explains that Keita is currently the ‘biggest loser’ at Werder Bremen following his move from Liverpool on a free transfer in the summer.
He recently made his long-awaited debut for them in the clash with Hoffenheim but left the game with an injury after 59 minutes. That was later revealed to be a torn muscle fibre, which will keep him out of the games against Dortmund and Union Berlin.
The German club will have to do without him again and his ‘susceptibility to injury’, which started at Liverpool, is reflected in a new update to his value.
That has now ‘shrunk’ by €3m and stands at only €9m, at least according to Transfermarkt, which is a far cry from the €65m valuation he held when Liverpool signed him in 2018.
It’s been a very steep, quick decline from those days, when he arrived at Anfield to much fanfare but never really lived up to it or the valuation.
Whether he can turn things around at Werder Bremen remains to be seen, although the early signs are not positive, and the feeling is that price could be dropping again in future.
