Aston Villa director Monchi is turning 55 today, and that was a reason for the Spanish media to have a word with him about his work in England.
Marca’s El Programa de Ortega called the Villans’ chief and asked him about how he’s been treated at his new club. The Spaniard insisted he’s happy with his new job, despite missing his home country.
“I have been well received, but I’m missing my homeland,” Monchi told Marca.
“There is an important project in which I am trying to learn and pass on my knowledge. I am happy.”
“Unai was very much to blame for my arrival at Aston Villa. We want to continue to grow, it is one of the privileged clubs that have a Champions League, there is an idea of being in the elite of English football and we also have the illusion of the Conference. There is a nice project without extreme urgency.”
With previous roles at Sevilla, AS Roma and Sevilla once again, Monchi left the La Liga side to join Emery at Aston Villa this summer.
In his first summer in charge of the club, the Villans spent €93m on signings, with the purchases of Moussa Diaby and Pau Torres, as well as Nicolo Zaniolo’s loan from Galatasaray.
Aston Villa also agreed the sales of Cameron Archer, Jaden Philogene, Marvelous Najamba and Keinan Davis, besides letting Ashley Young leave on a free.
