Rasmus Højlund left Atalanta for Manchester United in the last window and after having missed the opening three league games due to an injury, he made his debut for the Red Devils in their 3-1 defeat against Arsenal on Sunday.
The striker replaced Anthony Martial in the 67th minute and eight minutes later, he received encouragement from Casemiro, who grabbed him and shouted at the 20-year-old.
The Denmark international has joined the national team camp for the international break, where Tipsbladet and other media from his country asked the Manchester United player about the incident with Casemiro at the Emirates.
When responding, Højlund revealed it was the first time the Brazilian midfielder saw him play.
“He was happy that I gave the team perhaps a slightly different dynamic than what you get from Martial. He’s maybe a little more technically strong and looks down the gaps where I like to take the fights. After all, he hasn’t seen me play before, so he told me he was pleasantly surprised to see me play.”
It’s no secret the former Atalanta man has been a Manchester United fan and had talked about it even before arriving at Old Trafford.
Even though Manchester United’s last tie ended in a defeat, the frontman has expressed his delight after making his first appearance for the Premier League side.
“It was great to pull the shirt over my head and get my first minutes as a Manchester United player. … of course, I am happy and proud to make my debut,” Højlund explained.
Højlund regaining full fitness gives Erik ten Hag more options when selecting his striker in Manchester United’s starting lineup for the upcoming fixtures.
