Rasmus Højlund spent one season at Atalanta before leaving them for Manchester United last month.
The Denmark international managed 10 goals and four assists from 34 games for the Serie A side last season and starred for his country in the last two international breaks, scoring six goals, out of which five of them came against Finland and Kazakhstan in March.
This helped the striker generate a lot of interest but he has now admitted his heart was always set on joining Manchester United.
Højlund is currently with the national team in Helsingør, allowing him to interact with the Danish press, and his comments are relayed by Tipsbladet.
“The interest and many of these rumours happen early in the period when I make my breakthrough in the national team. Since then, there has been a nice dialogue, and then something happens when the window opens, where it really gets going.”
The 20-year-old has refused to dwell into the details of other clubs that showed interest in him and also as to what happened when the summer window opened. Tipsbladet say that things went as per the star’s plans.
“I’d rather keep it to myself. But an interest arises, and then the clubs start negotiating, and I myself start talking to the club about how the contract should look,” Højlund explained.
According to Tipsbladet, the Dane has settled in well with his new life in Manchester and has also received help from his compatriot, Christian Eriksen.
Højlund made his Manchester United debut in their last defeat to Arsenal on Sunday, but failed to find the back of the net in a 3-1 loss.
