After multiple rejected bids from Southampton’s end, Liverpool really had to think long and hard whether it was worth continuing to press for Roméo Lavia.

The latest bid of £45m or so was turned down by the Saints, who want £50m for their midfielder, and the belief is they will get it.

That’s what Sacha Tavolieri has been told, taking to Twitter to report the news, which will come as music to the ears of Liverpool fans who want the Belgium international in their team.

The Reds have been on a mission to improve their midfield after nearly all of last year’s members were either sold or allowed to leave for free, and Lavia would go a long way to providing long-term cover in the area.

Tavolieri states that he’s ‘been told that Southampton’ believe that Liverpool ‘will pay the lacking £5m’ to get a deal for the player over the line.

The Saints are refusing to stand down from their initial £50m valuation, and it’s now up to Jürgen Klopp’s side to dig deep in their wallet and accommodate them if they want the 19-year-old at Anfield next season.
