It was reported a while back that Sunderland AFC were interested in signing FC Sochaux Montbéliard’s Eliezer Mayenda.
The French club are currently in the middle of a crisis, having been relegated after failing their check in front of the DNCG, the league’s financial watchdog, meaning a few sales could do them the world of good.
Sunderland were looking to capitalise on this, having targeted the young Spaniard to bolster their Championship squad, as they bank on youth this summer, and Foot Mercato provide an update on Thursday.
The news comes via their journalist Santi Aouna, who claims on Twitter that an ‘agreement’ was found between Sochaux and the Black Cats, but there’s been a hiccup.
That’s because the deal is ‘momentarily blocked’ because the French club are now ‘asking for more money’.
L’Equipe also add a bit more, stating that while the original agreed fee was €800k + 20% of a future sale, Sochaux are now asking for €1.5m.
