Liverpool “have made a €200m offer” to sign Kylian Mbappé from Paris Saint Germain in this summer transfer window.
That’s according to journalist Edu Aguirre, who makes the huge claim regarding a substantial effort from the Reds to sign the French superstar.
As you’ll be aware, Mbappé has entered the final year of his contract with PSG this summer and formally told the Ligue 1 side that he will not be taking up an option to extend it by another year.
It means that his future is again the subject of intense speculation this summer as he seemingly looks for a move away from the club.
At the moment that is yet to happen and it is unclear whether PSG will seek a sale or simply let him run down his deal and leave on a free transfer next year.
The latter seems unlikely given Mbappé’s value and the money they’ve already spent on him, setting up the prospect of a deal being sanctioned this summer.
Liverpool have also been put in the mix, though, with them long having been credited with an interest in the player over the last few years.
Aguirre now sensationally claims that they’ve stepped up their interest and even made a bid to PSG for the forward.
“What has occurred, in the last few hours, in the offices of PSG is that an offer from Liverpool has arrived,” he said.
“Liverpool have entered the scene, Liverpool have made a €200m offer for Mbappé. The offer from Liverpool that has arrived in the last few hours in the offices of PSG is of €200m. Al-Khelaifi has put Mbappé up for sale.”
Aguirre then added that despite all this, he doesn’t think Mbappé will join Liverpool because the forward ‘wants to play for Real Madrid’ as the next step in his career, and the agreement between the France international and the La Liga side ‘for 2024 has been closed’.
This, though, is something Nasser Al-Khelaifi would want to avoid, since it would involve a free transfer, which he made clear on Wednesday wouldn’t happen.
Therefore, the Paris Saint-Germain president would prefer Mbappé to go to somewhere like Liverpool or Manchester United for money instead, but the final word, as always will be the player’s who could continuously refuse to leave until he gets what he wants.
