Chelsea signing Inter Milan goalkeeper Andre Onana is ‘more than a possibility’ this summer, with them in repeat contact over a possible deal.
That’s according to La Gazzetta dello Sport, who say that the Champions League finalists are planning to sell their number one this summer.
They explain that Chelsea are keen to sign a new goalkeeper at the end of this season as neither Kepa Arrizabalaga nor Edouard Mendy have impressed this year.
They’ve identified Onana, who has impressed for Inter this year, particularly in Europe, as the man they want, and that transfer is now ‘more than a possibility’.
According to Gazzetta’s information, the Blues have ‘reiterated’ their desire to sign the goalkeeper amid constant contact with Inter, as well as making it clear that they want to include some of their own players as ‘counterparts’ in the deal.
The idea is to bring Onana’s asking price down by including players in the deal, which will also help with trimming down an extremely bloated squad.
Inter are happy to do a deal as they can benefit financially, potentially add players to their own squad and have already identified Guglielmo Vicario as Onana’s replacement.
The two clubs still need to work out the ‘economic’ side of the deal, but it is very much there to be done if Chelsea want it as much as it seems they do.
