Leeds United have emerged as a contender to sign RSC Internacional’s Raúl Asencio in the next window, according to Bernabéu Digital.
The 20-year-old came up through the ranks of Real Madrid’s youth system and joined the lower division Spanish club last summer. Los Blancos have already taken over the latter, who will become Real Madrid C from next season.
His displays for RSC Internacional have seen Leeds and Espanyol take notice as these two clubs ‘follow Asencio very closely’. It’s further claimed that the Whites and the Catalan club are showing interest in his services.
The Spanish club have a great supporter in Luis García, who left RSC Internacional for the La Liga side earlier this month. Their option to sign the defender will depend largely on them securing continuity in the top flight.
Espanyol are currently 19th in the table with 28 points, trailing 17th placed Cádiz CF by four points.
Meanwhile, Leeds United ’emerge as an option’ for the Spaniard, as the Whites have been keeping a close eye on Real Madrid’s youth system in recent years and that’s how they have identified Asencio.
Asencio, who has a deal until 2024, is likened to Paris Saint-Germain star Sergio Ramos, which is why Bernabéu Digital have labelled him the ‘new Ramos’.
