It appears that Aston Villa have been given a huge boost in their pursuit of a very specific Unai Emery target.
That’s according to Daniel Riolo, a very famous pundit for RMC Sport, who, relayed by Le10 Sport, revealed that Mattéo Guendouzi will be sold by Marseille this summer.
The midfielder was approached by Emery himself during the January transfer window, but both the player and the Ligue 1 side decided it would be best for them to finish the campaign together rather than give in to Aston Villa.
What followed was a series of articles explaining that Marseille were interested in cashing in on Guendouzi this summer as the player has slowly fallen out of favour under Igor Tudor of late.
That’s a great boost for Aston Villa, with Emery unlikely to have forgotten about the player he knows so well from their time together at Arsenal.
Riolo made the announcement on After Foot, saying: “Guendouzi is no longer in the plans. It’s over. He’s on the transfer list.”
The big question now is how much Marseille will want for him and how much Aston Villa will want to spend on him?
