Iago Aspas didn’t exactly have the best Liverpool career. Impressing with Celta Vigo, Aspas arrived at Anfield with big hopes attached to him but failed to live up to expectations.
After just one year with Liverpool, Aspas was loaned out to Sevilla, and then went back to Celta Vigo on a permanent deal. Much more at home than he was at Liverpool, Aspas is impressing in Spain again, with 19 goals and four assists so far this season.
That form has seen him linked to Atletico Madrid as a possible replacement in case Antoine Griezmann is sold to Manchester United. Griezmann has been repeatedly linked with a move to Old Trafford, potentially taking up the chance to join his close friend Paul Pogba, and it would make sense for Atletico to already be looking at possible alternatives.
The Liverpool flop has got his career back on track so much that he’s seen as a reasonable solution. Spanish newspaper AS quote Aspas speaking about Griezmann potentially moving to Old Trafford: “It’s difficult to say no to the Premier League.”
Griezmann will hope that if he does join Manchester United things go better than they did for Aspas at Liverpool.
