Tottenham manager Antonio Conte ‘has not given up’ on signing Barcelona midfielder Franck Kessie for Spurs in the summer.
That’s according to Mundo Deportivo, who say that the Italian managed ‘knows him perfectly’ from his time in Serie A and is ‘crazy’ about getting a deal over the line.
The newspaper explains that Kessie could be on the market this summer after a season in which he has not featured as much as most had expected.
He is currently not pushing for a move and ‘feels more adapted’ day by day with the club and the city but the Catalan club could open the door to a move given their ‘economic needs’.
If that happens there is likely to be a list of clubs interested in a move and Tottenham are one of them, having targeted him before he joined Barcelona.
They have been ‘betting very heavily’ on getting Kessie for some time because Conte ‘knows him perfectly’ from his time in Italy.
He understands what the player can offer his or any team, hence his insistence on getting a deal over the line.
He has still not given up on a deal and the prospect of convincing Kessie to move in the summer transfer window.
Conte also knows that the midfielder would not want to return to Serie A should he leave Spain, which would presumably give Tottenham something of an advantage in the race for his signature.
Whether a deal happens remains to be seen, with it seemingly very dependent on Conte, whose own future at Tottenham is up in the air.
Given he is the one pushing for Kessie, his future needs to be determined before a potential move to Spurs for the Barcelona man.
