When Sporting star Pedro Gonçalves was clearly feeling pain in his left knee at the end of the match against Portimão at the weekend, the there was concern about his fitness for the match against Arsenal.
The Lions and Gunners are playing the first leg of the Europa League’s round-of-16 on Thursday, and not having Pote on the field would be a big issue for the Lisbon side.
However, as Portuguese newspaper O Jogo today features an update on the situation, they claim the player will be fit to face Arsenal.
It’s said he’s been doing recovery work, and despite some ‘precautions’ in the coming days, he shouldn’t be stopped from featuring in that match.
O Jogo reports that Sporting’s recent training sessions only didn’t feature Daniel Bragança, who’s been sidelined since July. So the Lions should come with nearly their full force to face Arsenal.
Pote has 16 goals and eight assists for the Lions this season, and should be the biggest threat to the Gunners’ defence, especially in this first leg played at Alvalade.
Sporting and Arsenal then play the second game at the Emirates Stadium on March 16th.
