Tielemans: Everton could be right option for Belgian
Ever since he burst onto the scene at Anderlecht, Youri Tielemans has been the envy of many fans around Europe, as well as many clubs.
In fact, the 19-year-old has been linked with pretty much every big club around the world at some point over the past two to three years, but has always remained at the Belgian side, where he is continuing to develop into a fine midfielder.
However, fans of top clubs might have to wait a while longer before seeing him wear one of their shirts, as Tielemans himself has admitted his next move will be to one of the ‘smaller’ teams in one of the big leagues, such as Everton.
On RTBF radio show La Tribune, relayed by Walfoot, the player replied to the suggestion from Marc Degryse, a former Belgium international, he should move to a club like Everton to continue his career.
He said: “It’s what’s best to progress step by step. What Mark says, it’s good to not burn steps and to avoid ending up on the bench and not getting game time. It’s what’s best for every footballer, I think. I, however, don’t have a preference league wise”.
While he might not end up at Everton, the Toffees may have some strong arguments to try and convince him should Ronald Koeman so wish to bring him to Goodison Park.
For example, the Merseyside club could try and use Romelu Lukaku, who played at Anderlecht for five years at the same time as Tielemans, to convince him.
Furthermore, as shown by his willingness to play young players if they deserve to do so, there are certainly worse managers to continue your development under than Ronald Koeman.
Tielemans has been linked to Everton for some time, and Southampton scouted Anderlecht whilst Koeman was in charge at St Mary’s, so there’s some history to this one.
Food for thought and all that…
