Not in the best form as things stand, Liverpool remain in the hunt for a Champions League spot for next season as Jürgen Klopp looks to improve on last year when the club finished the campaign in eighth.
Ensuring he didn’t need a new goalkeeper, the German manager eventually signed Loris Karius from FSV Mainz 05 for £5.3m, which hasn’t exactly gone to plan.
Swapping between Simon Mignolet and Loris Karius, Klopp still doesn’t seem convinced by either player, leading to suggestions he could once again be in the market for a goalie this summer.
Corriere dello Sport on Friday seem to think the main target, in a Petr Cech to Arsenal move, could be Inter Milan’s Samir Handanovic.
The Slovenian goalkeeper has been with the Serie A outfit since 2012 when he transferred from Udinese, and the Italian newspaper claim Klopp could, over the next few months, mount an offensive for the 32-year-old.
Chelsea, who could see (although we doubt it) Thibaut Courtois return to Spain, are also said to be interested.
Inter Milan are already thinking about the post-Handanovic era, with Atlético Madrid’s Jan Oblak and Genoa’s Mattia Perin the likely target to ensure a solid succession.
It will be interesting to see who Klopp ends up trusting at the season, and if he’s still unsure, shelling out for a new goalkeeper while getting rid of Mignolet (he’s the older of the two) might not be too surprising.
